Some information about Vicky Angelidou

I finished Psychology in the Aristoteleion University of Thessaloniki specializing in Social Psychology.
After my graduation, I studied dance at the Kafantari School of higher dance studies.
I have attended the three year Dance Theater Lab, of Konstantinos Gerardos dance company "Vis Motrix", where I had the chance to learn about Composition, Improvisation and Contact Impro.
I teach Ballet, contemporary and modern dance.

Choreography and Performance Research have been my main interests since the first year of my studies and these are the field that I would like to specialize in, in the future.

My Month of Choreography Process....

CHOREOGRAPHY LAB
1-25 July 2014

1 JULY 2014. Ana Sanchez Colberg.
1. Go out of the room and get back in again, without thinking, just in the state you are at the time. Think of the familiar and the unfamiliar.
I walk into the room and I start to wipe my feet. Slowly I dust the rest of my body and then I continue to wipe the floor with my body. But all these movements result in creating more mess.
2. Make groups of 3 and share the footprint of your movement with others.
I did the obvious. Instead of the obvious, I could have gone out and got some dust and put it on their bodies to create the need to clean themselves...
3. Write about yourself as a SHE?..
...SHE were behind the glass and we watched her as She came through the door and entered the room. She was silent and she did not even take a look at us. She slowly sat on the floor and began to clean her feet with slow and persistent movements. It seemed that something else was bothering her but she insisted to clean her body and then her clothes and then her hair and the floor. She must have been crazy or homeless or both. There seemed to be no sense in what She was doing, only that She wanted to clean herself and the space around her. But in this way she made more mess than cleaning. And suddenly she went from dusting herself to playing with the dirt. The hair she found on the floor became toys that she could get hold of and throw in the air. Then slowly, almost magically, the hairs ware landing on the floor. She seemed very happy among the dust and the hairs...

2 JULY 2014. Ana Sanchez Colberg
1. Remember a moment of yesterday that you did not pay attention and let it come back to memory.
I remembered the knot in the stomach, which went to the sternum, which went to the neck, which I wanted to transform into cry and words. Then it became a weight, and then it transformed into my mother, and we became one and I let her be carried by me. Then I died and I let her go...

2. Discussion with Inter-Independency.
The “discussion” between us did not start from zero but both  we carried our knowledge and our movement material...First, we didn't actually discuss, but we rather made “monologues” at the same time. We noticed that this was happening and we tried to go into a real “discussion” next time. This inevitably changed our repertoire of movements. But still we kept our individuality, more than we would have kept it if we had started with the task “Just Discuss”.

3. The two SHE...
We exchanged notes and we read someone else's “SHE story”. My homeless SHE and Zoe's aerial SHE became one and it seemed like they were meant to be inseparable! Some how this task united us (and that was the aim of Ana's workshop) and that happened so naturally, so we didn't only share our kinetic material, but somehow we incorporated “the OTHER” in our individuality, in the most effortless way in the world! In the course of those two days we established a dialogue, a community, a communication among us. Not because we are the same, but because we decided to SHARE.... And I can say that this sharing inside the studio was taking place outside of the studio too!!!

3 JULY 2014. Lab Time.
1. Two Tasks. Mine and Hers. We exchange Tasks.
Her Task: The room slowly became smaller and the walls closed in on me. My Task: You always move fast, changing directions and levels all the time. Feelings: As for the room, I felt the paradox when the room was bigger, I was less free, and the smaller it became, I felt I had more freedom. She felt how difficult is to move all the time in fast speed.

2. We made a modification in the task that was given to us.
My modification was that every time I met someone in the room, the room became small again in a second. I felt like a beggar. Her modification was that she could go fast either with only one part of her body, or with the hole body. That was more comfortable than moving fast all the time.

3. We exchanged tasks again and now we took back our task with the modification the other did, and vice versa.
Revelation!!! Bounces and Momentum can make the difference in fast speed!!! Fast speed is more possible and much funnier that way!!! You must not control the speed but instead you must let the speed control you.. And fast speed in one body part can be seen in people with hyperactivity or people in psychiatric clinics....

4 JULY 2014. Androniki Marathaki.

1. Warm up and Loosening up
We walk around and loosen up, we cup our ears and then     un-cup them, we close our eyes and open them up again and we do the same with our nose, jaw, upper and lower gums.  We walk around and every time we run into someone we call out only the vowels of his name, we speed up, afterwards  we call out only the consonants of the person's name.     We run. We move our gaze into the room without moving our head. We politely move our spine and joints according to the information we get  from the space around us. For example if the space has straight lines, we move in a straight line, etc. We look around and move our heads, our joints a bit more. Afterwards, our gaze, head and spine follow what we see around us and then we    move our joints more intensely. After that there is a combination between our    gaze and the information we receive from the space around us. We move faster and faster.

2. Object
we pick one object from the floor and find out what we can do with it (the focus is on us, not the object).
Newspaper:
A. I played with the newspaper by throwing it up in the air, while I positioned myself in strange postures.
B. I catch the newspaper with different parts of my body and threw it away.
 C. I roll the newspaper softly on my body.
 D. I push the newspaper away violently, slapping it powerfully.(All the above worked really well)

3. The golden leaf
We put down the newspaper and get hold of the golden leaf. We put it on our cheek, shoulder and wrist and it functions just like a magnet. We bring those three or two parts of our body close together and then far away. We introduce the three  basic moves (turm, jump and fall). We remember what we did and we repeat it.

4. Couple with newspaper and stones.
We tell our partner our basic instructions with the newspaper, and he tells us   his, and then we change roles. We make one group and he watches us, we make a    second group and we watch him. Afterwards we go back to couple work and we follow together first his instructions and then our own (The cat). Comments: More body movement. Catch the newspaper with more parts of the body.   More effort to try to keep the newspaper up in the air.

5. My story: “Kitty and the newspaper”.
There was a little kitty, relaxing in the garden, until he saw a newspaper page. It was that feeling of curiosity again that led him to a grant journey with his  new friend, the newspaper. The kitten started throwing the newspaper as far as he could and then running to catch it. Then he started throwing it up verticaly and waiting for it to fall. They ran together, and fell down together, he hugged it and then threw it up in the air again. Then he pretend it that he ignored it and then suddenly, BOOM! He snatched it again. He played for hours and hours with his new friend. THE NEWSPAPER.

14 JULY 2014. John Paul Zaccarini.
εκινήσαμε αυτό το σεμινάριο με συζήτηση γύρω από το πως δουλεύει κανείς, ποια είναι η διαδικασία με την οποία δουλεύει, και όχι το αποτέλεσμα. Ποιές είναι οι συνήθειές μας όταν δημιουργόύμε; Είναι δημοκρατικές; Είναι άμεσες; Είναι όλα προσχεδιασμένα;

3. HUGS

Πώς εν τέλει προσεγγίζουμε το θέμα μας; Μας ενδιαφέρει το στυλιστικό; 'Η η ΜΕΘΟΔΟΛΟΓΙΑ; Τι εργαλεία χρησιμοποιούμε για να δημιουργήσουμε εν τέλει μια ΕΙΚΟΝΑ; Ποιά είναι η ηθική που προκύπτει από την διαδικασία; Εν τέλει τι είναι η δημιουργία; Είναι η διαδρομή; ή το αποτέλεσμα που πρέπει να μας ανησυχεί;

15 JULY 2014. Just Me and my Knee.
{Τι ήταν αυτό που έκανα, ή τι ήταν αυτό που δεν έκανα για να οδηγηθώ ως εδώ;

Λυπάμαι...}

Performance Day....

Συμμετέχουν: Marili P., Cristina L., Vicky A.

Work in Progress:
Αισθήματα: Χαρά, Πάθος, Φόβος, Πόνος, Ελπίδα. Πώς μπορούν τα αισθήματα να γίνουν οδηγός της εξερεύνησής μου;
Κείμενο: Ποίηση. Πώς οι λέξεις ενός κειμένου με πλάθουν; Πώς τις αφήνω να καθρεφτίζονται στο σώμα μου;
Εικόνα: Όπως "Φλεγόμενο Πάτωμα" ή "Είμαι σε έναν κύκλο και δεν μπορώ να φύγω". Πώς μια εικόνα γίνεται κίνηση και καταλήγει στο να δημιουργήσει ένα συναίσθημα;
Αντικείμενα: Λουλούδια, Ύφασμα... Πώς προστίθενται τα αντικείμενα σταδιακά μέσα σε μια εικόνα; Την εξυπηρετούν; Που με οδηγούν;

Πώς όλα αυτά στα στοιχεία μπλέκονται μεταξύ τους; Τι υπερέχει και τι χάνεται στη διαδρομή;

Title: Flight to the Past

Participants: Marili P., Cristina L., Vicky A.

Audio: Recorded texts of Mariana Zisi

Subject:
This work in progress is dedicated to a man that has left us.
It is based on the autobiographical writings of my mother and it deals with love, death and a human being's effort to carry on with her life in company with the void another human being's loss leaves behind.
Common feelings that any person can experience in his life, seen through the personal lens of a woman, her daughter and most of all through the tremendous impact that this charismatic man left in both their lives.

Work in Progress:
Feelings: Joy, Passion, Fear, Grief, Hope. How feelings can become the guide of my exploration?
Text: Poetry. How the words of a text form me? How I let them mirror in my body?
Image: Like "Burning Floor" or "I'm trapped in a circle and I can't escape it". How an image becomes motion and ends in creating a feeling?
Kinetic Instructions: Like "Stay in the lower level" or "Move in high speed".
Objects: Flowers, Fabric... How objects are gradually added within an image? Do they facilitate the image? Where do they lead me?
Space:  What effect does the positioning of the performers have if I place them in an open space, in the center or inside a room? Away of the audience or among the audience?

How do all these elements interact with one another? What becomes prevalent and what gets lost in the process?

This work in progress was a journey among all these, and above all within the dynamics of the people that took part. It was a process based on what John Paul has told us:
"What matters the most? The journey or the result?"
Maybe... my answer so far:
"The journey mirrors itself in the result... and the result is the mirror of the journey..."
